As your student is about to launch his or her college career, it is comforting to know that there are well trained staff members living in the residence halls to provide assistance!
- DAs:
- Desk Assistants are students hired to provide information and services at each residence hall desk. DA staff the desk from 6:45 am until 11 pm. Public safety staffs the desk from 11pm until 6:45 am. If at any point in time a student needs information or immediate assistance, the DA can be of assistance.
- RAs:
- Resident Assistants are upper-class students who have been specially selected and trained to work with students in the residential living system at the College of Charleston. RAs are peers who live on the same hall (or in the same house) with students. The RA's job is to aid in creating a positive living and learning environment for your student. Together with the help of other staff members and students, RAs work to plan educational programs, floor or house socials, help enforce residence hall policies, and assist in promoting positive roommate/ suitemate relations.
- HRs:
- Head Residents are junior and senior level undergraduate students who live in the residence halls and assist the RHD with the management and operation of the halls. HRs are directly responsible for desk operations and work alongside the RHD to provide a quality living learning environment through programming and policy enforcement.
- RHDs:
- Residence Hall Directors are traditionally graduate students pursuing a Masters degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Education, or a related field. RHDs are also specially selected and trained to provide overall management and leadership to an entire building (or group of houses), and for supervision of the RA and DA staff.
In some of our larger buildings we have Professional RHDs. These residence life professionals work full time to ensure that your student is successful in all aspects of his or her college career.
