Professional Resident Hall Directors

JOB SUMMARY:  The position of Professional Residence Hall Director is a full-time, live-in position requiring approximately 40 hours per week. The PRHD is responsible for the day-to-day operations of at least one residence hall. The PRHD supervises a staff of Resident Assistants (RAs) and Desk Assistants (DAs), oversees community development, participates in an on-call rotation, and monitors maintenance/custodial concerns.  The PRHD also serves as an on-site counselor/facilitator for residents and is responsible for management of the building and residents when the College is officially open as well as during breaks.

  • Supervises, trains, evaluates, and provides guidance for student staff
  • Conducts weekly/monthly meetings with student staff
  • Oversees implementation of building-wide programming initiatives and community development
  • Oversees administrative tasks including building opening and closing, budget management, and report submission
  • Participates in an on-call rotation
  • Coordinates timesheets and payroll materials for student staff
  • Coordinates staffing of 24-hour information desk
  • Assists residents in their adjustment to college and group living by serving as a resource/referral in the academic, social, and personal counseling of students
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information in accordance with laws and institutional/departmental protocol
  • Assists residents in their adjustment to college and group living by serving as a resource/referral in the academic, social, and personal counseling of students when possible within the scope of the Department of Residence Life
  • Assists with conflict management between residents

Minimum Qualifications: The Professional Residence Hall Director position requires a strong desire to work with students and the ability to foster a positive living/learning environment.  A high energy level, self-discipline and control, commitment to students, strong work ethic, knowledge of self, ability to work under pressure, time and stress management, flexibility, effective communication and leadership skill, good judgment and a sense of humor are critical. A bachelor’s degree and previous work experience in a college or university setting are required. A master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Public Administration, Student Personnel, Counseling, or Leadership is preferred.
